1. Fulfill admission requirements

Before you apply for the CPRE Expert examination, make sure you meet the following necessary prerequisites:

1. Certificates

You have at least two CPRE Specialist or Advanced Level certificates. One of the certificates can alternatively be replaced by another recognized RE qualification or a publication.

2. Professional experience

You have worked for at least three years (full-time equivalent) as a Requirements Engineer in various functions and projects

Language of the exam:
English is required for all parts of the exam, both the written application and the oral exam Other languages are possible on request, but cannot be guaranteed.

2. Submit written application

Choose a suitable certification body from the list of our licensed certification bodies and submit your written application.

The application consists of two parts:

  1. Proof of your theoretical knowledge in RE (see the admission requirements above)
  2. Proof of your practical experience in RE (detailed description of your practical activities)

3. Take oral exam

Following the positive assessment of your written application, you will take an oral examination. This takes place either in a personal interview (face-to-face meeting) or in a video conference with the assessors.

The oral examination consists of four parts:

  1. Elaboration of a case study
  2. Questions about the elaborated case study
  3. Questions about your project experience
  4. General questions about Requirements Engineering

The oral examination lasts a total of 210 minutes. Of this total, 120 minutes are set aside for the preparation and elaboration of the case study. A period of 30 minutes is allowed for answering the questions on points 2 to 4 (above).

4. Receive certificate

After successfully passing the oral examination, you will receive the CPRE Expert certificate.

This certificate certifies that you:

  • have comprehensive and cross-divisional knowledge of Requirements Engineering
  • have the analytical competence to be able to assess complex situations in RE in a qualified and well-founded way
  • can select and apply the most suitable methods and techniques in RE according to the situation
